Common Plumbing Issues During the Holidays

Common Plumbing Issues During the Holidays

Thinking of having company over during the holidays? Are you confident your disposal, pipes, and hot water systems are ready for your family and guests?

A professional Plumbing Inspection will look beyond the superficial appearance of your property. It will examine all the plumbing systems that can affect the safety and reliability of the home.

Here are some possible issues to be aware of and address before your guests arrive.

5 Common Ready-For-The-Holidays Issues

1. Garbage Disposals

Got guests? The holidays often lead to overuse of disposals compared to ordinary use. Click here to learn to unjam a garbage disposal. Beyond overuse, undersized and loud disposals are common in older homes, but we can make recommendations for upgrades and offer same-day installations for a worry-free plan. Ask us about the under-sink-silent-wood-chipper joke!

2. Leaking Pipes

Leaks in water pipes are a common problem, but they can also be hard to detect and to access for repair. Water damage, foundation cracking and mold infestation from leaks can be costly to fix and remove.

3. Clogged Main Lines

The main sewer lines carrying wastewater from your home can become seriously clogged, often by tree roots. These types of clogs require special equipment to clear, and if lines are ruptured, they’ll need to be replaced.

4. Rusted Galvanized Pipes

If you’re selling an older home, built before 1960, there’s a good chance the plumbing system consists of galvanized pipes. These pipes were manufactured from lead and then coated on the inside with a layer of zinc. The problem is that over time, the zinc coating can rust and erode, exposing the water supply to lead. Lead poisoning can cause several serious health disorders.

5. Water Heater Issues

There are a lot of electrical and mechanical problems that can cause a water heater to malfunction. Luckily, a new water heater is relatively inexpensive to purchase and install.

The easiest way to avoid surprises during the holidays is proactively by having a Plumbing Inspection completed ahead of time by a professional to discover any serious issues and correct them.  As a loyal customer, Divine Electric & Plumbing will perform a FREE Plumbing Inspection and recommend the best way to repair any problems so you’ll be confident your holidays are celebrated in style.
